Marielle Thibodeau, a Route des Arts artist, participates in an art show in St. Benoit along with other artist.  Marielle grew up in St. Monique.  Her childhood memories are of playing with her siblings, doing all the fun that Quebec children had in those days.  In her acrylic paintings on canvas, she describes the activities in which the children took part, with their skis, toboggans, bicycles, old tire swings, their pets, and other toys.  The paintings depict village landscape, with children playing next to typical Quebec houses, hockey games in the backyards, and playgrounds of the village.  The scenes are cheerful, full of vivacious children with big wondering eyes, in constant movement, wearing very colourful snow suits, hats and mitts, or summer clothing.  Light blue is one of the most prevalent colours in her compositions.  It renders her paintings bright as the skies of Canadian winters, and sunny summer days.  The exhibition will be held at the René-Laurin Cultural Centre, 9156, rue Sainte-Madeleine, Sainte-Benoît.  The show will be on Sat., May 5, 1 pm to 9 pm and Sun., May 6, 1 pm to 4 pm.

A reception that will be held on Wednesday May 9th, from 5 to 9pm, at ICI par les Arts: 712 rue St-Georges in St-Jérôme, where I will be presenting sculptures and a series of paintings

of underwater nudes. Entitled «Transformation», these works are for the most part, inspired by mythical characters.  But, perhaps what also played a role in the creation of this series is my recent initiation to a new sport, swimming against the current in the rapids of the St-Lawrence.

The show runs till May 25th and 30% of the proceeds will go to ICI par les Arts. With a dedicated staff of teachers and volunteers, ICI par les arts is a non-profit organization offering a multitude of cultural programs in schools and at various social events providing members of their community access to a variety of artistic mediums from theatre and dance to music and

the visual arts.

Rendering the arts accessible to everyone is a mission that I share with ICI par les art, which is why I’ve invited Benoit, their djembe teacher, to end our evening in style and with rhythm.  So, for those of you who always wanted to try these celebrated drums, here’s your chance to take part in a jam session.
