A Latin Evening at Méridien 74 – St. Jerome

The Laurentian Hispanic Association invites the public to join them in celebrating the arrival of springtime.  They do hope that Quebec people will join them.  The last evening they organised had over 150 people on the dance floor. Manon is Massenet's five-act opera.  Anna Netrebko’s, the Russian Diva portrays the young woman who must choose between true love and a luxurious lifestyle in Paris. This Folk-Pop-blues writer-composer-singer has a classical and pop vocal training.  She works on her songs with her brother, André (guitar).  The program is entitled « That’s who I am”.  After her first single recording "Live On" she toured in France and Belgium, were she was recorded by Aka Music. Moonlight Girls – Ste. Adele


Do you remember the Andrews Sisters?  These ladies: Isabelle Gagné, Céline Bélair, and Karine Pion do the same kind of music since 2004, and they do it quite well, with vocal virtuosity.  They are song-writers and arrangers too, and have a unique approach to the American and French Swing repertoire.  Their first album “Moonlight Café“, reached the top 13 in Quebec and top 200 in Canada.  They tour with their musicians, performing their own compositions as well as top popular swing pieces such as In the Mood, and Chattanooga Choo Choo.    They participated in the 2004, 2005 and 2008 Montreal Jazz Festival, and other festivals throughout Quebec, including the Quebec City 40th anniversary, the Montreal Lights Festival, and the Lanaudière International Music Festival 2009.  The media coined them “The Triplets of Montreal.”  An evening not to be missed!  Sat., April 21, 8 pm.  Tickets: $37 Seniors $25. “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and More - St. Jerome

 

 “Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides” shares its exhibit space with the “Galerie Verticale” of Laval for two exhibitions.  The first one is “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” which recaptures a child’s approach to the world of fantasy and the imaginary.  The six participating artists are - Marjolaine Bourdua, Bruno Gareau, Arthur Desmarteau, Allison Moore, Mathieu Latulippe, Chloé Lefebvre, Martin.  The other exhibit is entitled “L’insoutenable légèreté de l’être” (the unbearable lightness of being) which invites the spectator to a weird, caustic and tragic world of Annie Baillargeon, Jean Mailloux and Roger Proulx.  They delve into the human condition and the collective and individual psychotic tyranny of our society.  At the same time, the work of Steve Leveque, the 2011 winner of the Laurentian young artists’ competition, will be exhibited.  This artist creates thought-provoking images.  Exhibition starts Sun., Apr., 15 and continues to June 10.  Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides, 101, place du Curé-Labelle à Saint-Jérôme.  Opening hours: Tue., to Sun., noon to 5 p.m. 450 432-7171.  www.museelaurentides.ca.

Lucien Legault – Brownsburg-Chatham

 

David Roffey & Ilania Abileah - exhibition continues to Apr., 15.  On Wed., Apr., 18 the artwork of Lucien Legault, Woodcarver-sculptor, will be displayed.  Lucien is known for his exquisite carved and built house furnishings, large cabinets, chests, and other wooden objects, have been seen by visitors during the past twelve years during the Route des Arts open studio tours.  His beautiful carving technique using traditional Quebec designs and colours have been admired by the public for many years.  In this exhibition Lucien presents a collection of colourful masks inspired by the first-nations people. This is an annual exhibition of Large and Small paintings by many member artists.  Also painter Arianne Themens, who lives in Ste. Dada 2012 is Coming - St. Faustin

 

The annual Large and Small paintings exhibition, and Arianne Themens paintings continue until Apr., 22.  This will be followed by what has become a special tradition to this center it is the annual “Dada” exhibition, for which many Laurentian artists depart from their own comfort zone to create unique artwork in the spirit of “Dada.”   Dada was started in 1916 by a group of non-conformist German artists.  The aim of this exhibition is to generate a reaction which leads the spectator to reflect on politics, society, religion, education, the environment, war, culture, etc.  The exhibition will take place from Apr., 28 to June 10.  La Maison des arts et de la culture de Saint-Faustin, 1171, de la Pisciculture, Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré. Véronique Tifo – Mont Laurier

Véronique Tifo obtained her degree in visual arts from Concordia University (2004) and a Masters in Art Therapy from the Quebec University in Abitibi-Temiscamingue (2010). Her exhibition: “Communiquer au passage” includes large-sized paintings in which the artist documents the transition from childhood to adulthood in the life of five women 50-60-years old.  She uses old photographs as “echoes of the past” to create narrative paintings.  She delves into the meaning of collective subconscious, and the impact of symbols, which may lead viewers to reflect on their own past, thus rendering her creations universal.  Exhibition opened Mar., 1 and continues to Apr., 21.  Opening hours: Tue., & Wed., noon to 4:30 p.m.; Thur., and Sat., noon to 5 p.m.; Fri., noon to 8 p.m.  Centre d'exposition de Mont Laurier, 384, rue du Pont, Mont Laurier Québec 819 623-2441 ceml@lino.sympatico.ca.

“Art Académie” – Mont Laurier

Fine Crafts & Spring Tea – Gore

 

The Gore Cottage Industry Craft & Arts Fair takes place the day before Mother’s Day, giving the public an opportunity to treat Mothers to a variety of hand-crafted gifts such as quilted purses and other bags, Tea-Cozies, home décor objects, home-made Preserves, greeting cards, small paintings, and hand-moulded ceramic bowls.  It takes place at the Gore Community Centre.  Artists and artisans with a display of useful gifts and delicacies, and what’s more, Carol MacDonald is offering her sumptuous three-course tea service.  This has become quite popular.  So please make your reservations early, there are only sixty places available:  Old fashioned English Tea, three Sittings - 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., reservations a must $12 per person.  Call Carol: 450 562-4458.  Sat., May 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gore Community Centre, 2 Cambria Road, in Gore.
