The
9th Cuban Festival
is a four-day celebration
Fri., to Sun., Sept.,
2 - 5
when Pierre Urquhart and his team turn Park George Filion, St.
Sauveur into a thriving Cuban Mecca. It opened on Fri., Sept., 2
with the band Son Très de Cuba that quickly had the audience
dancing, followed by the Cuban dance group Cubamanos.
The
celebrations continue throughout the weekend with the Cubamanos
dancers from Manzanillo, Cuba, as well as: Giovany Arteaga & the
Cuban Connexion, Trio Rubi, Son Très de Cuba, and Caliente Son.
Along with the local residents, busloads of people from the upper
Laurentians, Laval, Montreal, filled the park with cheer. Those who
attended the benefit dinner had samplings of Cuban food, coffee, and
deserts.
The
central booth gave out colourful brochures and maps of Cuba. Also
features are: a Spanish Immersion School of two-week sessions from
November 2011 to April 2012

Jason Lang - Café de la Gare St. Sauveur
Café de la Gare de St-Sauveur presents Jason Lang, who has already
performed at the Café de la Gare in October 2010. Jason Lang
writes free-spirited feeling-good songs, plays a few instruments,
and has a good sense of humour and humility. He has been
sharing his music world since his childhood, some of which was
spent in Morin Heights, where he lived with his Mother, the
folk-singer icon, Penny Lang. After working with other
musicians, such as France D'Amour, Isabelle Boulay, Roch Voisine,
Amanda Marshall, Luba, and Richard Séguin, he decided to go it
alone. He will perform some of his new songs from both his
albums “Boomerang” and “Beautiful Disguise.” Sat., 3 Sept.,

Zale Seck - Val Morin
This year’s new season of concerts at the Theatre du Marais in Val
Morin begins with a sizzling performance by Sale Seck. Zale was
born in Senegal, into the Lebou culture. He trained on percussion
instruments became interested in the guitar, which he used it to
perform his own compositions. He combines his voice and his music
to express memories of his people, thus becoming the ambassador of
the Lebou ethnic group, who traditionally live on fishing. He
became well known in Senegal and became part of the Senegalese
cultural scene since 1983. His career spans from the age of 11 in
1972 to 1992, when he formed his own group to become a star in his
own country until they became a star group in Dakar in 2000. He
travelled to France with the legendary group Baobab of Dakar. He
was also invited to the DK 24 festival of Youssou n’dour in Dakar.
Zale Seck appeared on Radio and on television in Senegal, Pan
African International, and Radio France (TV5). He lives in Quebec
since 2001 pursuing an artistic career with guitar, dancing,
singing, writing and composing. Zale Seck is back due to public
demand for an evening of memorable percussion, and African Rythmes.

This singer-composer sings and very gently tells stories with her

The group of artists who joined Roger Ponce and his committee
is back again with another artwork collection, to create a tradition
of “a touch of art” at this lovely historical site. They opened the
upstairs show, on Sat., Sept., 3rd. The show will
continue until Oct., 9, every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4
p.m. The artists are: Ilania Abileah, Danielle Aubry, Maurice
Bédard, Joanne Bolduc, Lionel Chartier, Esther Demers; Marina Dunn
Dugas; Loraine Lafrance, Jean Lukanovitch, Roger Ponce; Christina
Poole, and David Roffey. This gallery will continue
featuring local artists later on during the year.

Les Sculpturales – Saint Sauveur
These four-day event features over thirty sculptors such as
Geneviève Forest, Wilfredo Fernandez-Gonzalez, Claude Brosseau,
Mathieu Patoine who demonstrates wood engraving, and many others.
Clément Lemieux, a wood sculptor will also demonstrate his
craft demonstrating how he works with wood. (On Oct., 1 and 2 he
will also do demonstrations at 249 art gallery St. Sauveur). There
will also be demonstrations ceramic sculpting and other techniques,
and the master blacksmith from Mirabel Martin St-Jean will give a few demonstrations with the Calèche horses of St.
Sauveur. The variety of techniques is fascinating and at times
musicians are added to the scene, which makes it a very pleasant
experience. It takes place at the Park Georges-Filion, in St.
Sauveur Thur., to Sun, Sept., 8 to 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
Sun., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A new exhibition opens on

Moore
- Val David
This exhibition “Tracés” continues until September 11th. From
Sept., 17 to Nov., 20, an exhibition entitled “Souffle” by
sculptor David Moore. This multidisciplinary artist does
sculpture, and installations using pieces of wood, metal, glass and
stone, and at times including electronic devices. He also does
photography, painting, and digital printmaking. David Moore already
exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at the Laurentian
Contemporary Art Museum in the past few years.

Antique Cars in St. Sauveur
As in previous years, St. Sauveur features an exhibition of
old/antique cars with all the fanfare that goes with it. It is a
time when the village fills up with the most well preserved cars one
sees in the Laurentians. The owners, some of whom come in pairs
dressed to the T, are happy to show off their shining cars, adorned
with yesteryear’s nickel and wood trimmings. A word of caution:
“Don’t touch the cars!” The event takes place at the Park George
Filion on Sun., Sept.18, throughout the day.

The Regional Park Bois du Belle-Rivière opened its season with
activities for the whole family. Sentier Art3
the trails with the new creation by this summer’s invited artist
Marc Dulude may be seen on the trail of this Park. A new
feature is the GPS-Adventure to do a geo-rally. The equipment
will be provided (GPS & iPod). You can register for this
week-end family activity which takes about 2 ½ hours.
Families can play in groups and collect points, while walking in a
nature trail. Activity designed for the whole family, including
children 6 and up who can walk or younger ones in carriages. Parc
