Nostalgic Evenings – Ste. Adèle

This is the 10th edition of the Sainte Adele Nostalgia evenings, what’s more this summer the six shows are free! Sat., July 16: homage to Elvis Presley. Bob Walsh plays his guitar on Sat., July 23, and the group Les Trois Accords close the season on Sat., Aug., 6 at 8 p.m. On Sat., July 30, the group Habana Café will make the audience move with their Cuban rhythmic music. The location is "Parc de la Famille." In case of rain, performances will be given at the Park Claude-Henri Gringnon big-top.

KlezKanada

Music on the Mountain - 5th Music-Fest Tremblant

 

Violinist Angèle Dubeau is this year’s Artistic Director.  Dubeau aims to bring classical music more accessible to the public, with thirty musicians in forty free concerts starting Sat., morning and continuing to noon Mon., Sept., 5.  Here are some musicians participating in the festival:  Ensemble Caprice, performs Vivaldi, Soprano Shannon Mercer joins them; “Forestare” – 13 guitarists perform at 2 p.m.; The François Bourassa Quartet & Jeanne Rochette take over at 4 p.m.; Carlos Placeres with his five musicians, and pianist Alain Lefèvre follow; Singer Lorraine Klaasen, the Ensemble Kleztory with their Jewish-Gypsy music; and Monica Freire will add the Brazilian touch to the festival.  Angèle Dubeau and her “La Pietà” musicians will perform Sun., 8 p.m.  Jean-Philippe Tremblay, with his musicians for Schumann’s chamber music, Mon., at noon, the six musicians of the Merovitz Project will sing from their repertoire of Yiddish from Eastern Europe at 2 p.m.  Labour-Day weekend, 3-5 Sept., Centre de Villégiature Tremblant, 1000, chemin des Voyageurs, www.tremblant.ca

 

 

Summer Concerts – Holy Trinity Lakefield

 

Duo Duval-Boulanger

 

Contemporary Québec traditional music: flutist/ethnologist Jean Duval and fiddler/multi-instrumentalist David Boulanger.  In 2010 the duo launched their album Pièces sur Pièces - The album features a number of “brandies” -  the origins of which “may lie in the music of late 18th century fiddlers from the north of England who came to Québec, where the brandy has taken root, flourished and been preserved from extinction.” For this concert, David Simard will join them on stage on guitar and voice.  Strong musicians, who can make one stomp furiously.  Sat., Aug., 20, 8 p.m., Holy Trinity Church, 4 ch. Karen Young

 

A Family Affair With a musical career spanning over 30 years, Karen Young is one of Canada’s best known jazz singers. Karen has performed at most major festivals and toured North America and Europe.  In this concert, her brother Doug and her niece Isabelle join Karen along with bassist Norman Lachapelle. This singer-composer sings and very gently tells stories with her soft voice. 3rd North American Country Western Dance Competition

FFISS Festival of Independent short films

 

A three-day festival scheduled for the weekend of 9 - 11 Sept.  It will take place at “Mont St. Sauveur” as well as the part entitled “FFISS in action” at the Factories of St. Sauveur.  This festival serves as a platform for young local and Quebec film makers to be presented along with well known names.  It promises to be a colourful weekend in St. Sauveur.

Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides

 

Steven Siegel exhibition brings with it a special “Estiv’art” event on August 13 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  A new exhibition opens on Sept., 11 to Nov., 13 featuring five Laurentian Women Artists: Louise Bloom, Suzie Pilon, Nadia Myre, Lisette Savaria, and Suzanne Lafrance. Imaginary Garden

 

CIEM presents an exhibition by five young artists who created art at the CIEM print shop in Ste. Scholastique.  This is the 4th year that CIEM has welcomed youth from Kanehsatake in a program of creative apprenticeship.  Their creations express what the essence of what their heritage instilled in them including their particular approach to the nature surrounding them.  The exhibition includes individual prints done while working with CIEM’s program coordinator Suzie Pilon, and professional artists Wolf Mendritzki, Elizabeth Sacca, Paul-Émile Rioux, and others.   A collective work done with the artist Tanya Lyons, of Lachute will also be displayed.  The exhibit is being held at the Rotiwennakéhte Immersion School, 407, St. Michel, Kanehsatake, until Aug., 21: Thurs., to Sun., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

 

Maison de la culture St. Faustin

 

The Sculpture Place 

 

For the past six years, this centre offers sculptors the opportunity to show their creations during the month of August.   This year some of the artists are returning: Armand Destroismaisons, whose creations made from recycled metal and wood, have been adding a touch of humour to numerous exhibits at this center; Michel Lajeunesse; Gérard Poirier; Jean Rémy; Monique Silviani; Richard Lemieux; Roger Rolland; Pierre Poisson; Daniel Godon, Tony Fortin, and Annie Villeneuve all of whom come with new and exciting sculptures.  The event starts on Sat., Aug., 6 and continues to Sun., Sept., 11.

 

2nd Salon des Métiers d’art

  

This Salon features a few selected fine-craft artists who do: jewellery, stained glass, mosaics, weaving, felting, wrought iron, and paper.   It is a two-day event taking place Sat., & Sun., Aug., 20-21, on the lawn of the centre, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.  Kim Brewster, who has been doing stained glass art in her studio in St. Sauveur since 1981, participates in this event, and so is Jules Beauregard, with his exquisite turned wood art objects.  Many other artists participate with recycled and Mâché paper, ceramics, clay, mosaics, lace, weaving, and more.  La Maison des arts et de la culture de Saint-Faustin, 1171, de la Pisciculture, Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré. Night Painting in Two-Mountains

5th Art Symposium Domaine Saint Bernard

13th Painting Symposium Bois des Filion

Montagne-ART St. Hippolyte

A crowd pleasing three-day event! This 26th “Montagne-Art” features twenty-three artists practicing a variety of disciplines, from painting to sculpture and fine-craft arts, join to present recent creations. It is an event that fosters exchange between the artists and the public. The theme this year is Shadow & Light, featuring invited artist Lise Beauchamp, who resides in St. Hippolyte, and has been recognized as a Master Stained Glass artist, since 1979. There will be workshops, demonstrations and presentations. There will be a variety of fascinating techniques: sculpture, textile, stained glass, ceramics, print-making, and painting in different media, it promises to be a very interesting art happening. Montfort Pavilion Gallery 

 

The group of artists who joined Roger Ponce and his committee is back again with another artwork collection, to create a tradition of “a touch of art” at this lovely historical site.  They will open the upstairs show, on Friday, September 2nd, between 4 and 6 p.m., to welcome those who wish to personally meet the artists.  The show will continue every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., to the end of October.   Participating artists:  Ilania Abileah - prints, mixed media & hand crafted ceramics, Joanne Bolduc will be back with new beautifully executed watercolours; Dalia Chauveau, paints interesting faces or intriguing partial ones in oil, and does collage too;  Esther Demers paints bold, lively images; Marina Dunn Dugas does finely finished watercolours presented in a unique way; Roger Ponce presents Laurentian nature scenes in pastel that makes people understand why we live here; David Roffey does peaceful country houses in oil, and detailed floral compositions in watercolours.  Other artists are expected to join this exhibition.  The gallery will continue featuring various local artists, every two months throughout the year.  “Pavillon Montfort”, 160 rue Principale, Wentworth-Nord, 450 226-7898 or 450 533-5574.

Val-des-Lacs - Floating Sculptures

Les Sculpturales – Saint Sauveur

 

This 4-day event gathers accomplished and well known sculptors every year.  Over thirty sculptors participate this year, including three who just returned from Cuba where they created art: Geneviève Forest, Wilfredo Fernandez-Gonzalez, and Claude Brosseau.  The master blacksmith from Mirabel Martin St-Jean will give a few demonstrations with the Calèche horses of St. Sauveur. The variety of techniques is fascinating and at times musicians are added to the scene, which makes it a very pleasant experience.  It takes place at the Park Georges-Filion, in St. Sauveur, Thur., to Sun, Sept., 8 to 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (4 p.m. on sun.)

 

 

 

Antique Cars in St. Sauveur

 

As in previous years, St. Sauveur features an exhibition of old/antique cars with all the fanfare that goes with it.  It is a time when the village fills up with the most well preserved cars one sees in the Laurentians.  The owners, some of whom come in pairs dressed to the T, are happy to show off their shining cars, adorned with yesteryear’s nickel and wood trimmings.  A word of caution: “Don’t touch the cars!” The event takes place at the Park George Filion on Sun., Sept.18, throughout the day.

Jardins du précambrien in Val-David

 

Every Sunday at 2:00 p.m., a guided tour is free to visitors.  Sat., Aug., 13, 2 p.m., Québec “Geopoetics” workshop on the theme of Legacy, at the Gaston Miron area and on the Roger-Laverdure trail.  Sun., Aug., 14, 2 p.m., Guided Tour.  On Sat., Aug., 20, members of the Atelier québécois de Géopoétique will offer their own vision of legacy in the form of a “reading-journey” on the pathways, while a poetic and musical performance by the guest poet is scheduled for the following Sunday at the Agora Gaston-Miron. The participatory component will be back, with visitors having the chance to contribute to the collective work on the theme of legacy at the Agora de la Sonorité.  Visitors receive a passport containing the program, information about the artists, a map of the trails, and details about previous years’ “In-Situ” creations.  Opening hours:  The site of the Jardins du précambrien will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., until September 5, and will afterwards remain accessible to the public for the fall-colours on weekends only from September 5 to October 10. 819 322-7167, toll-free 1 877 858-1222 www.jardinsduprecambrien.com.

 

Sentier ART 3 Bois de Belle-Rivière - Mirabel

 

The Regional Park Bois du Belle-Rivière opened its season with activities for the whole family.  There is swimming, trout fishing, and aerobic training in the nature Gym installations to be found in the forest.  Sentier Art3 the trails with the new creations by invited artists will be open to the public.  Until Aug., 19, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., visitors may meet the guest artist Marc Dulude, at his creation on the trail. This trail will feature more activities until October 2011.  Park Bois du Belle-Rivière, 9009 boulevard Arthur-Sauvé, (Sainte-Scholastique) Mirabel is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays, and Sundays.  For reservation, and information call 450 258-4924.
